In 1998, an aspiring cartoonist wrote a letter to John Kricfalusi of "Ren and Stimpy" fame asking for advice. JohnK's response was truly sublime, inspirational stuff. See it here:

Francisco Ramiro De La Garza Alanis Its so creepy that also Rebecca Sugar could have been one of his victims (she used to post a lot on his blog asking for advice as a big fan)

Ted Watts Hah! Great quotes from John's Blog in relation to Rebecca Sugar!

"We met Rebecca Sugar, an animation student with crazy talent and I will link to her site later to make all the rest of you young cartoonist buggers sick with envy. Why all of a sudden are all the girls the best cartoonists?? Maybe because all the guys are now drawing in that faggy Cal Arts flat phony ass Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network style."
And bonus: it's got this quote about Katie Rice: ""Katie Goddess Rice was there drawing the world's cutest girls for everybody and taking photos of the best comicon bodies-maybe she'll let me post them here so you can see all the perfect flesh that was created in God's image."

Anthony DiPaola I don't understand, what's wrong with it? If you were being sincere about him offering inspirational advice, then I agree.

Sérgio Gonçalves
Sérgio Gonçalves Nothing is wrong with the letter per se. I believe that he offers inspirational advice in this letter, and that it's worth a read for that reason. The other, unsavory aspects of his life story that have been discussed here are a pity and a travesty. They will forever tarnish his legacy. But then that's nothing compared to what his victims suffered.

Vincent EL Plenty of people have given inspirational advice who weren't massive creeps. Plenty of people have drawn funny cartoons. Why do people insist on continuing to lift this guy up?

Jeanne Brooks Vocke He's a creep no doubt. Guess some people can't let go of their fondness for him, and want others to see what they still see themselves. I'd be lying myself by insisting this letter wasn't nice of him. But, Cosby, and Michael Jackson have also done man…See More

Chuck Thompson
Chuck Thompson Jeanne Brooks Vocke sometimes I feel like people like this loudly broadcast when they’re doing nice things as a smokescreen. Like the guy from the band Crystal Castles would donate all the proceeds from his albums to feminist causes but was a similar sex creep to John K. grooming young girls.

Jeanne Brooks Vocke Possibly, Chuck. Still, those who know how to rationalize would know that even if one had done many little acts of kindness or charity, it still wouldn't be able to outweigh something that was so disturbing and selfish.

  1. And the comments from the now deleted thread pointing to this (note "see more" doesn't work once it's deleted; an open page just allows you to harvest what's there since it's been open):
"Darren Green ...It was removed? :/

Jonathan Gies The majority of comments can't be read because whoever copy-pasted them forgot to click all the "See More" lines.

So I really don't know why this thread would be deleted. We've certainly had far, far more contentious threads on here before. Nobody was even fighting, from what I could see."
