The 130,000$ could've been used to have an actual (not stock) music score and increased production/cgi quality that could've been worth the money spent.
But this reeks of old, outdated messy shit with no depth. And it's fucking 2019. I absolutely blame John K for making the final result look like this.

I don't know whether to be sad for the old legend who made this, feel that this was expected, or angry that people pledged to this video. It's horrible to watch and boring all together. I would say the animation is what makes the vid, but I don't know what's wrong with it. It looks very, very off to me. Feels like some moments are traditional and others feel like motion tweens. It's such an off mix to me. And the voice overs are fine, would be better if the audio quality was better. But other than that, they're fine. Good work from the voice actors and all.

It's John K attempting to go "Hey? Remember this from Ren and Stimpy?"
Almost every aspect of the short is like this, attempting a sort of "quality through familiarity," and it always fails.
John K got all his money through the public perception of the "fun-hating executive" known only for cancelling things, and this shows how false that perception is. When an executive, or anyone in show-business says "no" to something, there's always a reason for it. There are more reasons than I can count here.

First the good stuff: Robyn Byrd's and Katie Rice's names aren't in the credits (good for them!) and I did not pay a single cent for this crap.
The bad stuff? Everything else. What the heck?
I had more joy by watching that "Goddamn George Liquor Program" thingy and that was a flash movie and not taking many years (I guess) and the cash of supporters.
John K., again, shot himself in the foot by somehow making this mess. He had potential but looking at his newest work (come on, amateur animators everywhere make better stuff faster!), his puzzling unreliability and at his revealed desire for and manipulation of teenage girls just hurts and would make me stay faaaaaaar away from John K. if I was a producer looking for cartoonists making cartoons for me. Seriously.

Some of this is good simply for that John K style of writing and animation, but most of it just stinks. The biggest problem is how awful the camera angles are, its always just moving and sliding all over the shots, and paired with how some animations are done, just screams "THIS IS FLASH!". It's also more jarring comparing this to the rough animation which had better shots and coloring.
8:44 is probably the biggest showcase of all these problems.

For 25+ years, John K. has espoused that meddling executives are the only reason he couldn't succeed in Hollywood. He was fired from Ren and Stimpy because of executives, and all of his projects have gone down in flames because of executives.
He gets almost 150 grand to make a cartoon, directly from the fans, WITH NO EXECUTIVES WHATSOEVER, and this is what we get.
As I said elsewhere, if Bob Camp did a kickstarter, it would have been finished on time and actually been good.

This was a project started back in 2012, by a "professional" animator known as john K. He recieved 136,000 dollars on kickstarter to make this short 11 minute cartoon and took 7 years to do it.
If you know anything about animation, you would know that this money would warrant animation 10 times better than this, and would've taken less than 7 years, for a cartoon that's literally 11 minutes long, which is around the length of like 2 good sized flash animations.
John K literally just took people's money, and then lazily put together a cartoon so he couldn't get sued by his backers. It was a scam and a half by an animator who's notorious for making excuses for his laziness.
For 7 years of work it looks like something a college animation student could whip up in about 6 months

Pour Some Sugar On Me
John K has hidden all comments on his Blog posts, so they're all fair game here. I'll highlight them when I find it wirthwhile to do so. Because even if they're hidden on Blogger, no comment is ever really gone.
(Pro tip: search for "13" in the below, then search for John's direct response to the 13 year old.)

"Listen up!
I’ve teamed up with your favorite girl cartoonist, Katie Rice to create and help develop new cartoon shows-some of our own, and some shows that others have created that they need wonderfully funny and cute pictures to go with their stories.
WE NEED YOUR HELP DOING SOME MARKET RESEARCH!
Help Katie and I aid science.
We are showing you some preliminary character designs from a new show in development. It’s top secret, so we can’t tell you the name of it yet or what it’s about.
BUT we do want to know from all the girl cartoon fans in the world whether you would like to see a show that looks like this!
I’m sure you are tired of all the namby pamby, talk-down-to-you types of purple and pink shows where all the girls look exactly the same and all they think about is combing their hair and sharing all their material wealth with friends and getting along.
OUR theory for a girls’ show is to make all the girls look and act different-you know, like REAL LIFE???!
So all you guys who read this blog of mine, get your sisters, daughters and Moms and girlfriends to look at these designs of hot chicks done by Katie Godess Rice and tell us what you think in the comments.
(Extra game: try and guess who this gal is based on!)
I think I will make this a regular feature! I’ll preview new show ideas and if lots of you tell us you want to see these shows, then I will have proof for TV networks that you are dying for some real cartoons!
*****By the way-to make this market research completely scientific, please enter your age, sex, race and religion then tell us how you like the characters. Believe it or not that’s what TV people think they need to know, so let’s give it to ‘em, folks! And if you have shows, hire me and Katie to make them look good!
Thanks
John- "

Oh god! I want to be in on this so badly! These character designs look fabulous, and i love the idea. Cartoons for girls suck, and I've been dreaming about making a not-sucking show with girl chars all through highschool.. Its a big part of why im in school learning to animate. I love the thought of you workin on a girl show, thats the stuff my dreams are made of! I'd only wish i could be a part of it!
I LOVE the first design, especially the hair. A little iffy on the second girl.. the hair shines turn me off a bit, especially next to the other solid haired chars. But that sweet pose on the right side is fantastic. I love the solid hair with dark blue for black. The blonde is adorable, I also like that flip wig girl.
I wish i knew more about their personalities/setting. I've always dreamed of making/seeing a girl character who's a schlub. Nothing is more adorable to me than girls in huge crappy t shirts..
Oh, and here's my quickie katie holmes, i tried..

Rebecca again... 18 female etc, I had to draw after looking at those chars. I'm just so giddy that you have a blog, and giddy over the prospect of these chars. So i whipped out some doodles of my favorite things on girls.. here are a few. I'm really new to cartooniness, I'm only a freshman and up till now i've been doing comics and paintings mostly, so these are kind of stiff and lame..
(does linking work? Pics )
well I'll write it in case it doesn't. http://www. sugarboukas. .com/sketches/ mompants.jpg
Anyway.. I noticed the low rider theme in the pants-wearing characters. So I thought I'd speak up for some mom pants, them being one of my favorite things. I get a kick out of girls in old movies with those great high up pants around their wasp waists. Glasses also get a bad rap, i'd like to see some more glasses on girl chars.. they're extra handy and can accentuate expressions and add vulnerability, it's a shame people don't use glasses to their potential. (I loved Anthony's glasses in visit to Anthony. Nothing punches a point home like broken lenses.)
And babushkas/bandanas look great, i think they'd look really great on Katie's characters, they're already rockin headbands, I love that!
And that's all I've got on aesthetics."

Unfortunately so far we can't talk about the stories or personalities yet. We have a network that is debating what kind of look for the show.
We want to convince them to do it in Katie's style with all the characters having different designs instead of just looking generic as most cartoon girls look.
Soon I will post another girl's show that we totally developed ourselves and get your input on that! We can tell you stories for our own stuff.
Thanks thanks thanks

Hi Bobbie,
the funny part is that pinky girl is based on Katie herself who is very smart, not bubble-headed at all.
You should have read the description of the artist character that was given to us..."artistic rather than intelligent" !
I guess you can only be one or the other. Well I ignored that one direction and said "let's base the artist character on you, Katie-smart and creative but wacky too."

Thanks
John- "

"We met Rebecca Sugar, an animation student with crazy talent and I will link to her site later to make all the rest of you young cartoonist buggers sick with envy. Why all of a sudden are all the girls the best cartoonists?? And bonus: it's got this quote about Katie Rice: ""Katie Goddess Rice was there drawing the world's cutest girls for everybody and taking photos of the best comicon bodies-maybe she'll let me post them here so you can see all the perfect flesh that was created in God's image."

John K: "What Pee Boners Are For-starring Slab 'N' Ernie-Michael Jackson's favorite cartoon!"
https://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/05/john-k-retrospective-may-28-santa.html
Exclaim.ca: "What has been your strangest celebrity encounter?"
John K: "Michael Jackson. Michael's handlers arranged a meeting with Michael and me at Neverland. This went on for months and months and months until finally it happened. The deal was that Michael wanted to start a family network: The Michael Jackson Family Network - but real family entertainment that both kids and adults loved. Michael loved my cartoons because kids and adults loved Ren & Stimpy. You see, when you put "family" in front of entertainment, it is generally everything but. My animation partner Kevin and I went to Neverland and waited for a while. You see, Michael really likes to build suspense. The other weird thing about Neverland - it has a lot of fake people all around: a fake butler and maid and fake kids on couches and such. But the real treat of Neverland was the paintings on the wall. One was a painting of Michael holding hands with kids of every race walking down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City. Another one was of Michael as Joan of Arc. And these paintings must have cost a ton of money. Eventually someone came and got us and brought us into a room with a bunch of guys with dark hair and big brown eyes. All of these guys had all met Michael when they were really young and they all were going to be executives in this new network. Michael eventually showed up in the room wearing pyjamas. I found out really quickly that the guys in the room where all hangers on and wanted me to animate all ideas. Michael loved the cartoons, especially the "Pee Boner" cartoon. Michael was doubled over in laughter saying that: "This guy knows what the kids want." Interestingly enough, none of the "hangers on" thought that my work was funny - it probably brought back too many traumatic childhood experiences. I will save the Steven Spielberg meeting for later."
http://exclaim.ca/comedy/article/john_kricfalusi-ren_stimpy
"According to their accounts, the superstar followed the same pattern: After gaining their trust and grooming them to be emotionally attached to him, he convinced them that what was happening was OK and scared them into not telling anyone about it.
It's an awful litany of psychological and physical violations, but the interviews with the men and their mothers, siblings and wives -- if you believe them -- help explain the overwhelming power of Jackson's charisma and influence. The accusation here is that Jackson wooed the parents with lavish shopping trips, cars and promises of career boosts for Robson and Safechuck, and won over the moms, especially, by confiding how empty his own life was.
The self-delusion of these mothers, who find ways to justify letting their sons sleep in the same bed with a grown man, is astounding. So is the ignoring of so many troubling signs. Jackson installs a fax machine into a boy's home so he can send daily affectionate messages? Well, he's lonely. Jackson spends six or seven hours on the phone talking to a boy who lives overseas? Ditto."

Alex Rudolph Maciek Kur I don’t know what to tell you. Not all guilty people go to prison, not all people in prison are guilty. We don’t live in a world that rewards and punishes people in a good/bad binary. At the very least, he slept in the same bed as a bunch of children. Draw the line where you will.

Mark Milano Victoria Pagac You need to watch the entire documentary. I trust the two men I saw telling their stories for four hours. There’s no way they lied throughout those heartbreaking interviews. If you can’t see that, you are letting your fan worship blind you.

Andrew Snarls Victoria Pagac - You aren't allowed an opinion unless you watch the entire documentary and agreed with everything that's said in it because the #MeToo era demands that you believe accusers 100% of the time and every time they accuse! Even though the a…See More

Mark Milano Andrew Snarls Yes, you're not allowed to dismiss the testimony of people who allege child abuse until you hear their entire story. If, after watching their complete interviews, you choose to disbelieve, that's your choice. But you need to give them at least the courtesy of hearing their full story before you decide.

Andrew Snarls Mark Milano - No, I don't, because they are at this point being paid for their 'testimony', Michael Jackson cannot defend himself, and their testimony is meaningless because what's going to come of it other than disparaging Michael Jackson's reputatio…See More

Mark Milano The court case has already been dismissed due to statute of limitations. At a minimum, they deserve a fair hearing. Their testimony is extremely credible.

Mark Milano Andrew Snarls If you watch their entire interviews, they explain very clearly the pressure they were under to lie when they were still children. Accusers are often forced to lie - you need to read more about the trauma of child sexual abuse survivors.

Andrew Snarls Mark Milano - So the accusers said one thing at one time and now they are giving an excuse as to why they lied under oath and now we should believe them because they are telling us the reallyReallyREAL truth NOW?

Alex Rudolph Andrew Snarls If your distrust is hinging on Robson and Safechuck being paid, good news— they weren’t paid. There’s no financial benefit to coming forward, reliving your trauma in an incredibly public way, getting hounded by conspiracy theorists who believe you’re lying, regardless of what you say, etc.

Alex Rudolph You can vote Democrat and still be a conspiracy theorist, i.e. two men whose stories were fact-checked for a year said they were the victims of sexual abuse and you almost literally said “follow the money.”

Mary Faught Mark Milano you mean the one sided mockumentary that even Robson's and Safechuck stories don't match the the timeline and did you know in 2005 Robson asked Michael Jackson could he get marry on Neverland to his wife awhile he on trial that's not in the movie. If you did 20 mins of research on those guys you would find out the they are liars. (They need money bad for fact Safechuck is getting sued for awhile now from family members because someone left money for the whole family when this person died. They are saying he took it all. It is public record.) You know they are in the entertainment business right? so they know how to act to fool the audiences. Now in Australia they cut out like 55 mins each of the movie before director send to them. Explain that

[ATTEMPTED POST] Ted Watts The important thing is that we can all come together and remember that John K admitted to having a 16 year old girlfriend, and we have pictures of him at her 15th birthday party because he started grooming her when she was 14, and that whether or not Michael Jackson did what he is accused of, John K has admitted to doing approximately what Jackson is accused of (on the cheap, of course).

Heads I Win, Tails You Lose
This is also a problem:

The dictum is that the cure to bad speech is not to prohibit it, but to have more speech. That dictum is imperfect, but a culture of "one side only" is part of what kept the problem dark. Do you want to defend John K.? Make your case. Keep it civil. Do not be threatening. And don't expect anyone to agree with you. But I don't think you should be silenced for just being on what I think is the obvious wrong side of this.
